BBC Studios - Salford Quays Tour

Me and my brother was very lucky to go on a guided tour around the BBC Studios in the beautiful Salford Quays. As my brother is a member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology organisation (IET) he gets invited to lots of interesting places. We were guided by a man who was very high up in the BBC and he was explaining what goes on in all of the buildings and how everything works throughout the tour.
Firstly we learned a little bit about the history of the BBC and the reasons why they decided to move the headquarters to Manchester - they wanted to explore what the north had to offer! After that, we went and had a look in the Jeremy Kyle, Match of The Day, Blue Peter Studios and the Philharmonic Hall. It was interesting to discover that the sets are actually tiny and are all free standing, practically made out of cardboard. It is amazing how they make the sets look so big just through camera shots. all the equipment looked very familiar, however the cameras were on another level, absolutely massive.
We then headed into the building where they film the BBC news and sport. While we were there, there was a live sports news bulletin being filmed which was very exciting to see how fast they have to sorts things out before the red light comes on. We also saw the radio studios where radio live 5 and BBC Manchester were being aired. The buildings were so modern and the equipment and furnishings inside were so colourful and it just looked amazing.
It was an interesting work environment as there were no offices, the tables that every was sat on at their computers working was almost a similar layout to a dining room you would get at school with just rows of long tables. Everything was very open and fast moving. During this part of the tour we were lucky to get a glimpse of a BBC sport news presenter and also a weather girl!
After seeing how brilliant and modern the new BBC is, I would definitely love to work there one day. The equipment is so new and up to date, the people are young and energetic and it is a work environment that you wouldn't ever get bored in. This has definitely given me an incentive to carry on working as hard as I can to one day work in BBC Salford.
