Optomen TV, Syco TV & Itv

Work Experience

On Saturday I was lucky enough to be a runner for Optomen and Syco TV for a  show called Food Glorious Food which will be aired on Itv1. It was being filmed in St Georges Hall in Liverpool which was very handy as it is walking distance from my house. I arrived there at 6.45am and started to get stuck in straight away working with the large team of people on the set. I did not realise how hands on production was, it involved a lot of carrying and lifting, running around for people, doing basic jobs but very quickly and a lot of them. The production side it more people management, not really technical.
I feel that after this experience I would like to have a go down the editorial route, to see what office based work is like. Production is very tiring, busy and can be stressful. Even the executive producers were doing all the packing, loading and cleaning jobs by the end of the day. To work in production you need stamina, energy and to keep calm which maybe isn't for me. Although I enjoyed it I would definitely like to broaden my horizons and try a few more things out before I decide which career path to go down. Overall I have a really good time and met some lovely people and hopefully this has got my foot in the door and will lead to many more opportunities.

  1. Sounds like you had a great, if extremely busy, day Coral.
