Creative Media Practice - QR Codes

A QR code is a quick way of loading information onto your phone. Many QR codes take you to a link which could be a picture, blog, information, a youtube link or a link to any site on the net. It has become a faster way of finding out information just through scanning your phone over the bar code.

In the lesson the task was to make a short story out of 5 QR codes. Our group decided on a story of a missing cat that has a twist at the end. We linked our QR codes to pictures of a missing cat poster, a video of a cats eye view which then led to the cat actually belonging to a witch and the owner dying unexpectidly but left a note saying how much she loved the cat.. This was really interesting to see the QR codes take shape as we linked them together. We just used text for the last QR code although we thought it was going to speak out the text but for some reason it did not work.
I was really happy with how our QR turned out, each one linked to the exact content we had planned and the story of the missing cat worked really well.

I very much enjoyed this lesson because it made me realise that there was so many types of media out there that I wasn't really aware of and I now have learnt about this one and that this is a good way of finding things quickly and directly. I will definitely like to use these again in the future for any projects or maybe party invites! Who knows how creative I may end up with these..
I found the QR codes really easy to scan, all I had to do was download the free I-nigma app which scans the QR code really quickly and then brings you to the content in which it holds. I also really like the fact that the QR code is a complete mystery until you scan it; this makes people curious and therefore more likely to want to scan it. Rather than plain and blunt advertising or information, this gets the user interacting and it is more fun simply because of the mystery factor it holds. Now that the majority of people now have smartphones it means its really accesable and I feel that in the future QR codes will take off and become a lot more popular.
Finally, It was good to see how everyone’s else’s stories came together just through scanning these simple codes.
