Introduction to MPS Dissertation

The introduction to the MPS Dissertation module was very daunting. Especially with being occupied in America all summer I had not really thought a lot about what I was going to do for my dissertation.Luckily, Sarah explained that we will be broken into our dissertation in all good time as that we should not start panicking just yet.. She also went through with us options on topics and how we should start going about thinking of our question. Sarah also stressed that it was very important to choose a topic that you are interested in because if you’re going to be writing 8000 words you cannot lose interest.
This made me come to the decision that I am going to do my dissertation on the Acid House Rave music scene in the late 1980’s, particularly focussing on the bad press it got. I chose this subject because I am really interested in this era and how these raves have influenced British music and the raves of today. I have already found countless books and journals that I can read for my research. I also feel that doing a topic out of my comfort zone will push me harder to research and think!

Hopefully my choice will have the tutor’s approval and they appreciate that it will not be the same as everyone else’s. Although have not come close to my question yet, I have been writing some down as practice. Hopefully over the next couple of weeks I will more clearer on my subject and will have my question ready!
