Second Year

University Blues

So second year at University is now drawing to an end. With only a presentation and a report to go, these 2 pieces of work conclude the second year. It has certainly flown by and I actually feel sad that this year we will be going into the final year! This year there have been lots of changes, ups and downs but importantly the class have grown closer together and I feel now that I know everyone a lot better and have we all have become even better friends. Although this year has been a such a challenge, there are definitely many elements that I have enjoyed.
Second year came as a surprise because I was prepared for the work load to be massive and to have to spend hours in the library doing assignments, however it didn't turn out like that. The work was very balanced and I found it not as intense as all the work during first year. Although this years work counts towards our final grade, it actually hasn't been too overwhelming and I have managed to not get stressed about anything as I have tried to enjoy the work as much as I can to avoid any sort of stress. My grades have fluctuated this year so I could not predict what my final grade for this year is going to be, but I know I have done well in TV production and applied media research so far, but not so well in digital media cultures as I did not enjoy this module therefore did not put as much effort into it as the others. It will be interesting to see what how well I have actually done!
Now to the positives! One of the best parts of the year had to be being situated in the brand new Redmonds building because it had so many good facilities and equipment and I really liked going there everyday to study. It helps being in a nice environment because I felt that it gave me more motivation and I also felt quite lucky that John Moores have provided this modern building for us because I know a lot of people will be sat in old lecture theatres which I would personally not enjoy! To the work side of the second year, another favourite had to be the TV studio production module. Alex Irving has to be one of the most enthusiastic teachers I have ever had which made the module all that bit better. The equipment is fabulous and I really liked the work, especially because I want to go down the television production route so it gave me the experience of playing different roles within the studio which I loved! It was a shame that it was only for the start of the year and it didn't carry on throughout the whole year, but I understand that there was a lot to fit in.
Besides from the favourite things about this year, the social side of it also has been very fun. Living with fellow classmates Tasha, Becca, Stevie and James has been a whirlwind of all sorts and I am also sad that I will be moving out of the flat on Mount Pleasant, especially because I won't be 10 seconds away from the Redmonds building anymore! All the mad nights we have had will be greatly missed but hopefully the social side will stay as fun and crazy throughout third year.
Hopefully after my long summer in America, it will feel cleansed and ready to soldier on through third year, when the dissertation will be what I will be sleeping, eating and breathing! I can't say that I am particularly looking forward to it, however I will try my best to work to my full capacity to do myself proud and get a good grade in my overall degree. I will most definitely be blogging over the summer, updating things that go on during my time in America and anything else that I feel needs to be blogged about! All I can say for not though it, farewell second year. You have been good and I hate that it is going so fast; if I could be a student forever... I would!!!
