CV

CV Writing

Before sending off my final CV and cover letter to Sarah for the Lime Pictures placement, I had a very valuable meeting with Paula Baines. Paula and I went through my CV together and made some changes to make it suitable for this placement. At first it was clear that I had too much bulk in my CV and that I should have a short and punchy objective instead of a profile in which I had quite a large paragraph at the beginning. Paula suggested that I reduce it so empolyers can read it fast and they can outline what I am all about.
The second thing to do was to put my media experience and employment under seperate sub headings; this is to make it clearer and more obvious to an employer what sort of experience I already have and to show that I am dedicated to the subject. Putting employment history on my CV also shows the employer that I have managed to have a job whilst studying which shows that I am capable of doing two things at once and that I am willing to work hard. I also added my GCSE grades onto my CV to show that I have more qualifications that just a BTEC, although once I gain my degree I will drop my GCSE's off of my CV as they won't be relevant anymore.
The last thing to do was alter my overing letter as I had mimmicked pointers off of my CV which I shouldn't have done, instead I should have written how very passionate I am about Hollyoaks and that this experience will benefit me greatly. I changed my letter dramtically to a new one stating how I am suitable for this placement and that I want it really badly!
Overall, the meeting was very helpful and it has most definitely given me more of a chance in gaining a placement or any media work experience that I apply for in the future as my CV is up to scratch and professional.
