Big Brother
In Keiths lecture on global formats, we were asked the question 'why do we study global formats?' well these global formats help us to understand cultural diversity, homogenity and local media for example. More recent formats have diversified into factual television and entertainment; such as gameshows and reality shows such as Big Brother. We discussed how Big Brother has changed from once being a socail experiement when the first series arose over 10 years ago, to now where is it seen as entertainment. This tells us about our own culture and how it is changing. Why do we regard these ordinary people as worthwhile and interesting when most of them do not have a talent which could make them famous any other way like mos celebrities. These days it is becoming easier to become famous by just being ordinary due to the increase of reality and entertainment shows. This was interesting to understand the change in our culture and what we like to watch has evolved over the years.
