An excellent way to start Monday afternoon was having the pleasure to meet with American Director Ellen Perry who studied at USC School of Cinematic Arts. She came into the Screen School to talk to us about her new film, 'Will: You'll Never Walk Alone'. As a massive fan of Liverpool; she quoted 'it's as if you aren't even English' the film was inspired by Liverpool itself, the passion of the football fans and the friendly atmosphere. At first she told us why she made the film and why she casted Perry Eggleston to play the leading role of 11 year old Will. She said 'It just felt right. A Director should always go with their gut feeling'. Perry proved he could play the character precisly and definatly was sucessful, despite having no previous experienceTelevision or Film. A few more famous faces in the film; Bob Hoskins, Damien Lewis and Steven Gerrard. Perry said she was surprised how well the footballers could act.
The production side of the film she said 'was like giving birth'. She explained how hard it was and how important it is to stick to your schedule because once you start there's no turning back and you do not have time to make mistakes. This showed us the importance of planning and researching before the film is ready to be filmed. Also working with children proved to be difficult as they are only allowed up to 4 hours of filming a day which makes things even more complicated when planning the schedule.
We also watched the trailor on youtube and were very impressed. It is definatly a film I will go and see once it is released.
